I’m interested in buying an R.C. airplane. I’ve been trying to find a good beginners guide online, but it seems that the more helpful sites/online communities are drowned out by the billions of sites trying to sell me stuff. I figured someone here might have a few good jumping off points for a beginner? Half the fun of starting a new hobby is wasting hours reading up on it.

I have a friend who has some experience with the hobby, and it turns out there’s a club with a nice airfield close by, so I will be getting “real” advice as well. But for now I just want to read up on the hobby to make sure I’m really interested.

I’m surprised that you suggested the helpful online communities are drowned out. I’ve always found them easy to find and full of extremely helpful enthusiasts.

[www.rcgroups.com](http://www.rcgroups.com) is an example.
