# R.I.P. Fanne Foxe, "The Argentine Firecracker"

[Fanne Foxe has died](https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/24/us/politics/fanne-foxe-dead.html) at 84. She was the stripper involved with powerful U.S. Rep. Wilbur D. Mills, whose Tidal Basin affair was instrumental in his political downfall in the '70s.

Remember when sex scandals ended political careers? My, how times have changed.

After the scandal, she danced at one of the strip clubs in Boston’s Combat Zone. It happened while I was an undergrad here, but I didn’t go to see her.

Swapped privately and stripped publicly, raised a family that love her, Phi Beta Kappa with several degrees. A pity that one of her lovers was a lush in the political spotlight, but overall a life well lived.
