I would have missed hearing about it if I hadn’t noticed the little blurb in _Entertainment Weekly_, but [M. Scott Peck died about a week ago](http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/28/books/28peck.html). He was the author of a number of books that I thought had some interesting things to say, including the “self-help” best seller _The Road Less Traveled_, and I am sad that he won’t be around to write any more.
