WORCESTER, Mass., April 13 (UPI) – Harvey R. Ball, who created the internationally known good cheer symbol Smiley Face, has died in Worcester, Mass., after a brief illness. He was 79.
I wish I could say we hardly knew ye.

Welcome to the Straight Dope, RDangerfield. Let me suggest that you read the descriptions of the fora in order that you put things right place. Unless you don’t want any respect 🙂

I don’t know whether **David B** or **Gaudere** will move this to MPSIMS or Comments on Cecil’s Columns, but at any rate it seemed appropriate to include a [link](http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a4_031.html) to Cecil’s columns on the smiley.

Before this gets moved anywhere, I’m gonna cross the forum boundaries and close it. There are already _two_ threads on this topic in MPSIMS and another, older and freshly revived thread, in Comments on Cecil’s Columns.
