R. Lee Ermey dissing Obama

Not by me.

Hell, by today’s standards he’s still a moderate.

Well shoot. There went that movie.

How so?

“They’re” … I agree that if he is just talking about democrats then he is limiting the problem.

“bankruptcy” … perhaps not technically correct but the concept is the same

“impose socialism” … an overreach but hardly worse than stupid

On the plus side, I found his Coors commercial listed on that page very funny.

R. Lee Ermey amuses me. Yes, like a clown. He’s a parody of a right-wing jarhead who gets engorged while talking about weaponry and its effects on people and things. I was a huge fan of Full Metal Jacket, and I believe that he pretty much played himself there.

A current NRA board member making statements against Obama? Color me surprised.

I imagine it’s almost required of him at every public speaking gig.

Cool.

Now we know R. Lee is the second toughest guy in the Corps.

Eh, it was a non-partisan charity event, and he was obviously invited as a movie/TV star and pro-veteran spokesman, not as an NRA guy. He’s not a figure like Rush Limbaugh where he’s known primarily for his political opinions. I’m fairly certain he was invited to give some pro-USO, pro-Toys for Tots pablum to make donors feel warm and fuzzy towards those groups so they fork over some donations.

Obviously he can say what he wants, but its pretty douche to go off on a political rant like that at a charity event, as I seriously doubt the USO or Toys for Tots wants to be associated with one political party over the other, and especially don’t want to turn off pro-Obama donors.

 Dude, he’s talking about Cloward-Pivening. That dishonest meme is a lot worse than stupid. Nobody in the Admin or the Democratic Party wants to in any way “crash the system” so they can then “impose socialism.”

Well, I’d expect an old fossil like him to be stuck in time in the mid-60’s so this fits just perfectly. Often stupid old fools like him seem completely unaware that any time has passed since their heyday. Their lack of relevancy makes them amusing and embarrassing at the same time.

For his next act, I await his rant about the communists under his bed, and him telling the damn kids to get off his lawn.

While holding an M-14.

No, I wish it were simply a matter of Ermey being lost in the '60s, but I think the reality is far worse, he’s saying shit like this because he’s lost in the GlennBeckiverse. Have you not noticed all the far-right pundits over the past three years attributing a “Cloward-Piven strategy” to Obama and the Dems?

Must have run out of enemy watermelons or something.

Hey, don’t bring The Jackal into this. He’s above that political shit.

BTW, is Ermey’s character in Full Metal Jacket really like a real-life USMC DI (as Ermey was once)?

Makes one wonder how the USMC ever wins anything, if that’s the case.

Hartman was doing pretty well except for Pyle. I always thought Kubrick’s message was that this is how seriously the Marine Corps needs to mess with people’s heads to be the excellent fighting force it is, and that both of their deaths can be excused, really must be excused, from the standpoint of the ideals of the Corps and the mission of war.

The Navy uses Marine Corp DI’s, and that wasn’t my experience. Here’s the thing…contrary to the opinions of some folks (who will remain nameless), Full Metal Jacket wasn’t a documentary, but instead it was a Hollywood MOVIE. :stuck_out_tongue:

Exactly. It’s hard to see how such flaming assholery would work so well on recruits IRL, regardless of how it works on fictional characters.
