As for Americans being crazy about race, that’s obvious. It’s a huge deal here, and it’s extremely irrational. Even for the people who are rational, we still have to deal with the irrational people. So yeah, the idea that Dolezal could be black makes no sense. But what is nevertheless true is that someone that looks like Dolezal could be classified as black, because of the famous American one drop rule. Anyone born to a black mother is black, regardless of their percentage of African ancestry. “Passing as white” wouldn’t be a thing if crazy American society didn’t define people with 87.5% European ancestry and 12.5% African ancestry as “black”. And it wouldn’t matter except that it matters oh so much.
