BTW. when the ark was on the tramp steamer, it burned off the Nazi stencil on the wooden crate. But it didn’t do so when it was packed in the US Army crate at the end of the film. So is the conclusion that the ark itself or the Jewish God was cool with the ark being in the custody of the US Army but not the Nazis?
I mentioned this in another thread so long ago , and I appear to be in an incredibly small minority, but I always thought the ending with the warehouse implied that Indy’s securing the Ark for America was behind the Allies’ victory. “An army that carries the Ark before it is invincible.”
“All your base are belong to us!!”

Here’s how crazy I was at the time: when they showed the warehouse, I thought How many of these bogus Arks did they manufacture, anyway?
Harrison Ford’s a quarter Jewish; not too shabby.

I really like that theory, but then Indiana Jones was always my favourite movie hero.

His face would have melted. That’s why he screams at Marion not to look at it .
The Nazis and Belloq are guilty of hubris and arrogance in the eyes of God, so they get fried. The Ark is vengeful, to say the least.
