# Raisins vs. Currants

What is the difference between a raisin and a currant? Are they interchangeable?

[Raisins](http://www.allrecipes.com/encyc/terms/R/8135.asp) and [currants](http://allrecipes.com/encyc/terms/C/6176.asp) (I guessing you mean the first definition) are pretty different. Currants are a lot smaller and darker and have a very distinctive taste.
