Safe to say an NFL 1st?

I’m sure there have been two safeties by one team in one quarter before. But if you mean scoring _precisely_ 4 points in a quarter, yeah that is rare, but probably not a first.

I think scoring 6 pts in a qtr is quite common though. 😃

[The Rams had 3 safeties in one quarter in 1984.](http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198409300ram.htm) I’m not sure any team had two safeties in one quarter and no other scores. Tough to research that.

[And here Fred Dryer was credited with two safeties in the fourth quarter of a game.](http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/197310210ram.htm) Like the previous mention, there was at least one other score that quarter.

Two safeties were recorded in two consecutive quarters in a college game in [2009](http://weirdfootballscores.blogspot.com/)

Iowa beat Penn State 6-4 in 2004. Iowa had two field goals, PSU had two safeties, one in the first quarter and one in the fourth.

Oh BTW, here’s your answer, [in the SI recap](http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/gameflash/2011/11/06/4516_recap.html):

> [@](#):
>
> It was the first time a player yielded two safeties in a quarter since Aaron Rodgers did it against Minnesota on Nov. 9, 2008. The last player to have safeties on consecutive plays was Kordell Stewart of Pittsburgh against Jacksonville on Oct. 3, 1999.
>
> The safeties marked the first time in NFL history that a team had scored a total of four points in a quarter.
