In fact, now I think about it, a lot of businesses are exactly the opposite of a regular job - bills arrive every week (or every day), and the payments come in once every month or two. Farming is probably the extreme case, where you work (and spend) for a year before you harvest/slaughter and pray for a good price when the stuff hits market. This is why they invented futures trading, but I guess even that is pretty gummed up at the moment.
