Cleveland Quartet – Beethoven: String Quartet, Op. 130 - 1. Adagio Ma Non Troppo; Allegro
Alison Krauss & Union Station – Rain Please Go Away
Yothu Yindi – Dhum Dhum (Bush Wallaby)
Olivia Tailfeathers – Buffalo Song
Hmm. Not sure this is at all reprsentative of my music library. Popular 90s rock way too prevalent. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Cleveland Quartet songs fall into the “uploaded from a friend but don’t really listen to” category.
*Another Sunday * - I Mother Earth Ahhhh, Edwin, how I miss you. I loved to hate you, you were so awful. I loved this song when I was a teenager, however, and didn’t realise I had a copy of this still in my playlist. Amazing it’s still there… and I still like it, albeit a little sheepishly, these days.
*Come and Play in the Milky Night * - Stereolab This song almost brings tears to my eyes at this particular moment. It reminds me of home, hot summer nights spent asleep in the hammock on the patio under the stars, and listening to the distant hum of traffic. I just bought my plane ticket for my first visit back in three years, and I didn’t realise how much I’d miss it when I left. The town itself, no, but home… how I loved this song.
*Sing Your Life * - Morrissey Hee. My hero.
*Nothing Is Changing * - Sleeper I only recently copied this (as well as the entire CD) into mp3 format, after years of delicately handling the CD as if it were made of the finest china; indeed, I’d paid $60 many moons ago to have the thing imported from Britain, since it wasn’t released in North America, and this was pre-Napster, iTunes, etc. I was a huge Sleeper fan at one point or another, and I treated this album like it was holy. I had to. I paid to. Today? It’s aight. I whip it out now and again for the ridiculous “Rollercoastering”.
*Harikitte Trying * - from All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl NukuNuku - erg, you know I can’t be faking my list when these gems pop up. Do your best trying, I can get behind that. I like sugary, happy music. Makes me feel sugary. And happy.
*Novocaine for the Soul * - Eels This was the first song I’d heard by Mr. E. I saw the video first. I was 17 or 18. You know why I got into Eels? I thought he looked kind of like Graham Coxon (nowadays, not so much). I loved Graham Coxon. I became fascinated with E as a surreal by-product of that fact, and ended up liking Eels on its own merit. So there you go. I like how he was all float-y in that video. Wheee.
To Speak Is A Sin - **Pet Shop Boys ** Ah, Neil… the man I could never have, not even in the best of circumstances, not even on my best day, barely, barely even in my dreams. Another song from my teenage years, lots of love and warm feelings associated with it.
*Temptation Waits * - Garbage Now Shirley Manson, that’s a girl I can get behind. When I open my eyes on the morning, I long to be her. Without the gross stuff. I’ve heard some of her stories. I’ve got a little Franny syndrome. Jesus Prayer syndrome. But there it is. This song makes me walk with my hips, raise an eyebrow and seduce every passerby. Even though I can’t, I think I can. When the song ends, I’m back to my skittish, frumpy self.
*Come Out Fighting * - **the Vandals ** I use this song to pump myself up for my workday. I need it. I work retail with a micromanager.
Remind Me (Someone Else’s Mix) - Royksopp I love these guys. My BIL turned me onto them shortly after my arrival in Seattle, back in December 2003. A remix of a song some of you may know from that caveman-at-the-airport Geico advert. The song is already burned into my mind as being associated with my memories of first coming to Seattle.
*Maxwell’s Silver Hammer * - **the Beatles ** Hey, I guess I do have a few oldies on here. My father used to play his records downstairs in the basement when my brother and I were little kids, and when this song came on, Dad would make little hammer motions in the air in time with the hammer sounds in the song, and dance his subtle bounce-dance to the music. This is made funnier knowing my father is a quiet, dignified sort… except in front of us kids. I didn’t realise the song was about a killer until I was an adult. But it still makes me think pretty happy thoughts. Bang, bang!
*Hungry Like the Wolf * - **Duran Duran ** I uh… heh… I… well… I… I don’t know how *that * got on there… heh…
*Sleepy Maggie * - Ashley MacIsaac Ah, our fallen Maritime star. I still love the music. Keep your kilt on, Ashley, and come on back to us again, will ye, b’y?
*Chiisana Inori * - Okazaki Ritsuko “Little Prayer”, the end theme for Fruits Basket. It’s in waltz time, and I love waltz time, and I just think it’s the prettiest song. It’s sweet.
*The Very Thing * - **the Gandharvas ** Haven’t heard anything new from these guys in many, many years. I used to believe very firmly that Paul Jago was god. Hmm.
*Shut Up * - **the Bloodhound Gang ** When I get cynical, I get out the Bloodhound Gang. Because I can’t get cynical without laughing about it. I like how this song is just plain… honest. Don’t sugarcoat, just say it: *And I don’t give a damn if you don’t like me, 'cos I don’t like you 'cos you’re not like me. *
*None of Us Are Free * - **Solomon Burke ** When I get cynical and lose my sense of humour.
Ladyfingers - **Luscious Jackson ** Why, it’s practically my theme song, if one could have a theme song. My husband thinks this song is about cookies.
*Party All the Time * - **Eddie Murphy ** **WHAT?! ** I don’t know how this got on here! … Hon…hon…honestly, I… oh, shaddup.
*Juke Joint Jezebel * - KMFDM Oh! My other theme song. The reason my husband married me. What? He says he married me because I’m “cool”.

I’d have to say that #1 is appropriate for starters, and these songs are a good approximation of my musical tastes. (Although a little more Irish folk music, normally)
Based on these songs, I’d have to say it must mean that I’m a depressed, hard-drinking loner with socialist tendencies. Oh, and totally fucked when it comes to my career, unlucky at love, and probably going to die by being executed for a crime I didn’t commit. And #11 is also funny, because my CD player does not work.
An aside- is Against Me! nationally famous now? Or just Florida? Because one of the guys (James) is from my hometown, and apparently really embarassed by his former band, The Scams. If you see them in concert, call him Pig Nuts. He’ll love it.
Oh yeah - Hooray for Bastards of Young! A current favorite song.
And Dr. Who, great choice with Desmond Dekker. I’ll have to assume you’re cool because of that song.
The Ramones are a lot more popular than I thought they’d be…
And you guys listen to a ton of music I’ve never even HEARD of. I mean, some I’ve heard of, and don’t like, but there’s got to be 20 or 30 bands/singers I’ve never come across at all. Guess I have to go looking now…
