# Randy Quaid and wife in jail

If I’m reading [this](http://www.popeater.com/2010/04/26/randy-quaid-jailed/?icid=webmail%7Cwbml-aol%7Cdl1%7Clink4%7Chttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.popeater.com%2F2010%2F04%2F26%2Frandy-quaid-jailed%2F) correctly, Randy and Eli Quaid failed to pay a $10,000 hotel bill. They were released on $40,000 bail but then didn’t show up at court. A warrant was filed and they’ve been arrested and locked up. Due to not appearing in court, they’ve forfeited the bail.
Do the math. They forfeited $40,000 and went to jail in order to avoid appearing in court over a $10,000 bill. The subtleties of this legal strategy are eluding me.

Curiously enough, my roommate works at the San Ysidro Ranch, the place the Quaids dined and dashed. Anyway, according to the _Santa Barbara Independent_, because the bill was so large, $10,000, running out on it is a felony. So, they face criminal charges, even though the bill has since been paid, according to this article:

If they used a bond it only cost them $4,000.

I like all the Quaids. They seem to be independent spirits. I wonder what the inn did in the first place to piss Randy off? Also, $10,000? Gawd, what were they doing? Room service? I can’t imagine being presented with a bill like that.
