# Range hood filters..

Cover or replace Range hood filters with Chux or other breathable material. The idea is to be able to wash or replace the material, rather than having the disgusting range hood filter covered in such thick grease for years and years…

Maybe I am missing something here, but why don’t you just clean the existing filter every once in a while.

Cover or replace, is that the question? Personally and professionally, I just use a good oven cleaner spray, outdoors, (or an organic, citrus based if preferred) and hose thoroughly, being aware of where the runoff is going, and wearing PPE as needed. I find the harder part to do well are the fans, slides, brackets and internal bits above, the filters themselves should be easy if done on a semi-regular basis.

It’s that easy. Also metal is not flammable, an advantage in range hoods.

I have never seen a rangehood that did not have metal filters meant for the dishwasher. Well…my Ventahood doesn’t a filter, but instead a pan that you remove and wash in the dishwasher. Same idea, its a problem that already has a simple solution.

I’ve always just thrown them in dish soap water and let them sit overnight, the next day rinse them off and move on with my life.
