Stainless Steel Rat, that was one of the unexpected pleasures of moving from Massachusetts to Washington. They are always broken in Massachusetts, too. But apparently in Washington there is some kind of regulation that they have to work, and they almost always do.

Around here, it was just recently that the local fire marshals in MOST towns decided that the locking pumps were not the devil’s offspring, and as the as pumps are being replaced, they start working correctly.

There are also towns that don’t have more than one or two self service stations, with those grandfathered in from the dark ages. The self service ones aren’t banned, but never get signed off on.

very until they realize if they do anything to the ambulance that causes someone to die its possible they could get the death penalty because of its murder in some places

Cite where it’s a murder charge? AFAIK, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle can get you a fine, points on your license record, and possibly a few days in jail in some places. I know of no place where it rises to the level of a capital offense.

I just poured six cups of cream & sugar into the ice cream maker - without putting in the frozen insert bowl. Plus $15 worth of vanilla beans. There was an opening in the spot where frozen bowl should go. The mix channeled through the opening, through the compartment where the mixing engine sits, out onto the counter, down the shelves and all over the kitchen. I’ve mopped up twice now and every single thing I own is still sticky. Or maybe it’s just me. I don’t know.

I don’t know if the ice cream maker is salvageable. The engine might be compartmented off - I didn’t open it - but I still needed to rinse the sugar and dairy product out of the unit. It was 1.5 cups of sugar. I’m not going to turn the engine on for a few days so that it can dry properly - but I’m not expecting good news.

Now I’m off to take the air conditioners out of the windows. Happy Holidays!

…along with Mrs. J.

After seeing word of [a nationwide warning](https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2019/11/25/romaine-lettuce-salinas-california-recalled) about eating romaine lettuce out of Salinas, California due to pathogenic E. coli contamination, I checked the package of Romaine in the fridge which supplied last night’s salad, and there it was in block letters:

**SALINAS**

I expect horrendous diarrhea, renal failure and death to begin shortly.

It’s been grand, and I’ll miss

Or collapsed on an unfortunately-placed mouse.

Akin to **Merneith** , I put my favorite glass mixing bowl half full of freshly made chocolate ganache on what I thought was a cooled off burner on my gas stove.
It wasn’t cool.
Over two cups of ganache and a lot of broken glass later, the burner only partially lights. Cleaning it took almost an entire roll of paper towels.

That sucks. Chocolate ganache is so good.

On the bright side, good username/post combo, though.

I just spent 3 days with my Mother In Law and I am exhausted. She is a very nice 86 year old lady who enjoys talking to people and has the short term memory of a goldfish.

We have had the same pleasant conversation about why she needs a certain color of embroidery thread to finish a project (including showing me the problem) about once an hour for the last 2 days.

As a fellow stitcher, I do understand the frustration of learning that one can’t find the a very small amount of a certain color from specific dye lot to match a year’s worth of work so the project can be finished. I am NOT at all unsympathetic and suggest needlework stores to visit on Saturday. We agree on a girl’s day out, she puts her piece away and allowed me to do hostess and planning things until I would next sit down next to her hoping to ask her opinion as to what she would like for whatever meal/drink/activity she would like next and end up looking at her project again.

Every so often, the real woman surfaces. Yesterday, she looked out a window and noticed the neighbor with Christmas decorations lit up. She looked at her son and with a scolding sound said “why the hell don’t you have a pellet gun anymore?” I do love her.

Had a low tire pressure light this morning. Tires looked OK enough to drive to work (I could NOT be late today or I’d lose my holiday pay, instead just getting the regular day’s wages). Lunchtime, I have a flat. Got the tire pumped up enough to baby the car home 17 miles. DH checked it out and found a noticeable lump in said tire, right near the apparent air leak. I will be either taking Lyft or the bus to/from work tomorrow and going to the tire shop on Saturday. Ugh.

It’s cold, windy and we’re expecting lots of rain. So of course my water barrel starts leaking last nite. I pulled 12 1 gallon containers, 4 homer buckets, and 24 2 gallon water bottles off, also 3 household buckets. I refuse to lose that wonderful rainwater. He’s tried to patch it up (it’s leaking at the faucet) with some kind of Flex Seal stuff (apparently that as shown on TV stuff works??!!) I spent the day barefoot in water on cold concrete draining the motherfucker. We’re shopping for a a new catchment system as soon as this miserable weekend is over.

Last year there was a Romaine Salmonella scare, and the produce guy was taking away the Romaine. I grabbed a few 3 packs and he told me about the Salmonella and that he was dumping the lettuce.

I was buying it for our tortoise. Salmonella is part of his GI flora, so I wasn’t concerned with feeding it to him. Instead of explaining this, I said, “It’s OK, I’m serving this to guests I do not like” and took my Romaine. 🙂
