Not only that but it had been listed as “ended”, not “ended early”.

All criminal charges were dropped in the [Jacqueline Mercado](http://dallasobserver.com/issues/2003-04-17/feature2.html/1/index.html) case, as they should have been. Sometimes the law does in fact protect innocent people from overzealous prosecution.
