Tropical storm Beta formed in the Gulf of Mexico today, and Forecaster Beven’s official National Hurricane Center “400 PM CDT Fri Sep 18 2020” storm discussion, reviewing the effect of a “mid-level ridge building to the north of the cyclone”, went out of its way to insert the gem that “This ridge should act as a Beta blocker…”

NOTE: I have requested this be moved to MPSIMS

I laughed. My wife laughed. And my medicine cabinet broke out into cheers.

These days I’m happy to find humor in anything - thanks for posting.

I sometimes read the “forecast discussion” link on NOAA for my area ([example](https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=MTR&issuedby=MTR&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1)), and very occasionally there will be a side-wise joke/reference similar to the OP regarding some weather phenomena.

Some of the forecasters here in the Chicago NWS office do some similarly-amusing writing in their forecast discussions, which always makes me smile.
