It’s amazing that women can restrain themselves from grabbing ahold of whatever and whenever they please, which is an argument for having more women in elected office and positions of executive power. Let’s see. We’ve had a Congressman ([Preston Brooks](https://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/minute/The_Caning_of_Senator_Charles_Sumner.htm)) who walked onto the floor of the Senate and try to beat a Senator to death. A Congressman ([Wilbur Mills](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilbur_Mills#Sex_scandal,_alcoholism,_and_retirement)) who held a press conference while drunk in the dressing room of a stripper. A Congressman ([John Jenrette](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Jenrette)) who had sex with his wife on the steps of the Capitol building and was later convicted of taking a bribe. A Congressman ([Barney Frank](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barney_Frank#Scandal)) who lived with a male prostitute. A Congressman ([Wayne Hays](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Ray)) with a secretary who claimed her entire job was to have sex with him and admitted, “I can’t type, I can’t file, I can’t even answer the phone.” Who also claimed to have been pimped out by _another_ Congressman to sleep with a Senator in exchange for support for a bill. A Congressman ([Mark Foley](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Foley#Scandal_and_resignation)) who sent suggestive texts to Congressional pages, who incidentally served with another ([Anthony Weiner](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Weiner_sexting_scandals)) who didn’t stop at “suggestive” and didn’t limit his activities just to pages. And a Congressman ([Joe Wilson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Wilson_(American_politician)#%22You_lie!%22_outburst_during_Obama_address), noted above) who interrupted a speech to a joint session of Congress to shout “You lie!” to the President of the United States. Among others. And yet, the Republic survives. ---

I feel like every politician now sees the American populace as having the level of maturity I thought most people grew out of after Middle School. Politics has just kind of gotten silly, but the politicians seem to be very good at what they do - I’ll give them that. ---
