I just discovered Poco is still going & think that’s a great thing. They were never Rebel Voices of Their Generation or Tragic Junkie Heroes–they just played well & sang beautifully. So I’m pretty sure their act has aged well.
Gram Parsons was one of the pioneers. But he spent too much time hangin’ with the Stones & OD’d far too early. Thus leaving much of country rock to The Eagles.
(Down here in Texas, we had Doug Sahm. He could do Country, Rock, R&B, Tejano & Cajun!)
Well, as a black dude, I liked Poco, but then I’m a g ahuge 80’s rock/ Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush fan so I don’t fit the steroetype of being a black guy anyway.
I likedPoco because of this…I was just new in the military, far from home and lonely and I someone gave me a tape of a song called “When it all began”. It made me think of an old girlfriend and somehow that comforted me. So yeah, I like Poco.
