Ravens/Browns 11/18 game: Ruling on bizarre FG?

The part that is unfortunate is that it took so long to get it right. It’s a classic example of poor crew chiefing; the Referee should be decisive and quick. Upon hearing a conflict, he should have worked to establish the facts as decisively as possible. If he felt he needed video evidence, he should have headed there at once. Told it wasn’t available, he should have made his decision on the basis of what he had been told by his crew.

By dragging it out, it puts the whole process under a stinky cloud, even if they got it right.

Translation: It ain’t over till the fat lady … dances?

As a Steeler fan, I’ll add that Pete Morelli should not be allowed near a professional football game. I’m not surprised that he ended up involved in another debacle, even if they technically did get it right. (For my money, I say that if the goalposts ultimately cough the ball up on the wrong side, it wasn’t meant to be. Tough shit, buddy.)

Morelli is the one who egregiously blew the call in the Steelers-Colts playoff game (improperly overturning the call on the field after taking an even closer look at it during a video review). He made a commanding victory close, and fortunately for everyone did not end up giving the game to the Colts.
