Spooje shaves his head. I use an electric (norelco 5801 advantage) most days. It does better on my face than on my head. The sad truth is the electric will never give as close a shave as a blade will. But you can’t blade shave your head every day due to skin irritaion. So I blade shave only twice a week.
Gillette Sensor disposables, a little pricey but worth it. I have a “swirl” pattern to my beard-- just under my jaw line on one side. This has always been tough to shave closely, I found the Sensor to be most effective.
Also use Barbosol Methol shaving cream after a nice hot shower. If you can’t grab the shower, at least use a washcloth in as-hot-as-you-can-possibly-stand water.
As to the beard, I know what you mean about not having the courage to try it. I waited til I went on a 2 week vacation and came back with it well under way. I was suprised at fact that the only comments people made were positive.
I only need to shave about every other day. Usually with a safety razor. But I would slack off and get a pathetic looking little almost goatee after about a week. My wife just got me a Norelco. It is easy/quicker for me to use. It does not get really close. But I don’t have that much to shave.
Yikes! Is there a time period where it’s going to take my beard some getting used to this new fashion of shaving? I just shaved w/ my new Mach 3 for the second night in a row and 1) I’m nicked up 2) a bit red and 3) not sure if it’s any closer than w/ my electric. I will have to say that to get this close w/ an electric took more time and effort.
So, I guess I’ll give it a week to see how my poor face reacts.
I’ve shaved nearly 30 years with an electric. The thought of cold steel passing over my neck gives me the shivers. That being said, I’m going to Europe this summer and will probably have to learn to use a blade, for cheap’s sake. The alternative is a beard. Which I hate. On me. Not on others. Unless they’re women. On their face. Oh forget it…
