What were people shunned for? Wearing skirts that showed their knees? Saying that maybe God was a woman?

Maybe sometimes they had legitimate reasons for a shunning, but before one does this, I think one should examine the offense carefully and see if maybe the shunee is just Misunderstood.

What little I’ve seen from Grimhacker doesn’t impress me, and he seems like a jerk. I have yet to say anything to him, or–until this thread–about him. I may well never bother with him.
But while I have my own mental list of posters I ignore on general principles, and he might manage to end up on it, I won’t join in some sort of group effort to shun him. That’s too much middle school “popular people get to shit on the outcasts” thinking for my taste.
(If it makes you happy, you guys can shun me for not shunning Grimhacker–that too is how the Amish do things, not to mention the 12-year-olds.)
As an erratic and infrequent poster, I’m not sure how much impact I will have, but…

MysterEcks, no one is going to shun you. Grim bought this with his attitude. We’re not trying to be cruel, just make the SDMB a happy place again.
And as for school… I would have given my Hands to only be shunned.
I gotta go with MysterEcks on this one. If I see a positive post or thread from Grimmy to which I would like to respond, I will. I won’t, however, insult him or call him names, or give the kind of negative reaction he (for some strange reason) seems to be trying to draw.

Shunning is fine and posting a link to this or similar threads in response to a case like Grimhacker is fair enough, but I think the “shunning tree” idea is not so good. If someone has a problem with a member they can email a moderator or say so here on the Boards. To have a shunning tree would be to create a real board clique.
