# Re: What's the origin of the words joint, roach, and stoned?

I was thinking that the term joint originated from the resemblance of a schooner’s mainsail wrapped around the boom, however, that is the etymology of the term reefer. :smack:

A roach, or the butt end of a marijuana cigarette, also probably got it’s name from the resemblance of a cockroach (not that you would really want to make that connection).
