Reading List: Islam and the Islamic World

A few more:

Mawdudi, Sayyid Abul A’la (edited by Khurshid Ahmad and Khurram Murad). The Islamic Way of Life. Leicester, UK: The Islamic Foundation, 2001. Although Maududi is not one of the more tamer authors, this book of his is quite tame. Nice explanation of Islam and its morals.

Eposito, John L. Unholy War: Terror in the name of Islam. New York: Oxford University Press, 2002. Although I disagree with what some of Esposito has to say, the factual information in this book is very enlightening.

Ali, Muhammad. Introduction to the study of the Holy Qur’an. Columbus, OH: Ahmadiyya Anjuman Isha’at Islam Lahore Inc., 1992. Although the author is an Ahmadi (also known as Qadiani), nothing he writes is exclusive to the Ahmadi movement. This is more about principles and central beliefs of Islam backed up by quotes from the Qur’an.

Majid, K. A. Do and Do Not: the code of salvation. Karachi, Pakistan: DO and DO NOT Publishers, 1990. Basically a topical guide to the Qur’an: it lists topics or issues, and then provides what the Qur’an has to say about them.
