You’re kidding right?
I call my bathroom my private library. In fact it was my restroom reading habit the lead me directly to this site.
I used to buy the Straight Dope books in paperback and keep them in the basket in the bathroom. Each little Q & A was just about the right length for a 5-10 minute sit. (my kids used to call them the Straight Poop) When I got my computer I started looking up newspapers and columnist and voila—that is how I found this lovely message board.

I always read on the bathroom. Almost obsessively. When I feel mother nature call, I hunt around for something to bring in to read. If there’s no time for that, I resort to my much loved _Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader_ or even the shampoo, etc bottles.

I have never read in the bathroom, not even once. If I don’t need to be in there right at that moment, then I don’t go in. I don’t go in there early and wait to see what happens. If I’m spending a lot of time there, it’s because I’m sick, and not really in the mood to be reading anyway.

During my teen years my mother’s sister had some problems with my uncle, so she and her two daughters moved in with my family. I learned then that if you want to get any reading done in a family with five women, the bathroom is the only place of privacy.
I also learned how to read very fast.

[grandpa]At my age you’re lucky if you can get enough to come out to stick to your ass![/granpa]
I have irritable bowel, so when I go, I’m going to there for a while, and it gets kind of boring staring at the walls and towels, so reading helps take my mind off things.

I never read on the toilet. I go in the bathroom to go to the bathroom, not to read. I can read any other time.

In my frat days in Toronto we picked up a tidy pile of reading material from the Chinese and Soviet embassies, put it on a bookshelf in the bathroom, and put a sign on the door: “Bullshit Reading Room”.
