Oh my lord.

> [@](#):
>
> On Monday, Bush accused Iran of harboring suspected al Qaeda members and developing nuclear weapons. If the country’s Islamic government is to improve ties with Washington, the president said, it must hand over any al Qaeda members to their home countries, abandon its suspected nuclear weapons program and end its support of Islamic militant groups such as Hezbollah, which the United States considers to be a terrorist organization.
>
> “As to direct connections to September 11, we’re digging into the facts to determine if there was one,” Bush said

Yep. Keep looking into those. And really, while you’re at it, invade. I mean, it worked real well in Iraq. The people love us there now. It’s not like finding out these facts may or may not have basis actually _means_ anything.

So, all you dopers out there, could someone check and see what natural resource or corporate resource we’ll be looting from Tehran in the near future? I mean, it -was- part of Bush’s ‘Axis of Evil’ back in 2002…

Of course I’m not surprised by their actions, we can see this coming from miles away. I’ll just add that we _can_ avoid the war by voting this fuckshit the hell out of office.

Well in this case they actually are working on nuclear weapons…

But it’s too late. We don’t have the resources to invade anything else right now. We’ve used all of our political and military capital on Iraq and no longer have the influence to deal with actual threats.

Aside from the fact Iran is not in violation of any number of U.N. Security Council resolutions, is it the $166,000,000,000 plus we’ve set aside for reconstruction or the cheap gas we’re delivering to them that you’re referring to in your “natural resource looting” allegation?

The U.S. did not enter Iraq to loot natural (or corporate (WTF?)) resources. They’ll not do that to Iran either.

Certain Bush-whackers around here would have a lot more credibility if they bashed Bush for things he actually does instead of moaning about things they think he might do. So let’s just get this straight:

Ain’t gonna be no draft…
Ain’t gonna be no cancelation of the election…
Ain’t gonna be no Bush-engineered terror attack…
Ain’t gonna be no invasion of Iran.

Now, we return you to the originally scheduled program.

We couldn’t find WMD in Iraq, so are we now going from country to country until we DO find something–just so he can be right?

Bush: “Lookie here! I found WMDs in Iran! How d’ya like me now?”

You scary fuck.

Sad to say, but Canada would maybe get on board for this one. Diplomatic relations between Canada and Iran have really turned sour lately.

Just to clarify, you might want to point out that you are not saying that Kerry would, at all costs, avoid retaliating against the Iranian government if it did in fact be proven to be a principal in the 9/11 attack. Right? I mean, you’re not wanting to jump from George Bush imperialism to Jimmy Carter impotence, surely.

Oh spare me. The problem of dual citizenship and various countries not recognizing the other’s claim is hardly a call to war.

Well, a bit too early to tell whether this is really the opening salvo to another invasion, don’t you think? I have to doubt, that there are enough US troops available at the present time to mount another such adventure, even considering that Iran borders Iraq. Maybe in about two years from now.

I’ll still vote against Bush in November, just, you know, to play it safe.

OTOH, as long as the proposition is on the table, so to speak, what say the Teeming, uh, Dozens? If there were concrete evidence that Iran had in fact aided the 9/11 hijackers, what would be the approriate level of response? Would that justify invasion and the toppling of that country’s government?

If it is being insinuated that Bush believes we need to bomb the hell outta Iran then I am behind him 100%. Look at [this.](http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/ir.html) These sons of bitches have signed international treaties protecting business crushing treaties involving: Biodiversity, Climate Change, Desertification, Endangered Species, Hazardous Wastes, Marine Dumping, Ozone Layer Protection, Wetlands. They must be stopped. And given their developed petrolium, natural gas, coal, chromium, copper, iron ore, lead, manganese, zinc, and sulfur resources, I’d say they damn well deserve to be invaded!

Frickin’ Ay-rabs (I know, they’re not Arabs) all deserve to eat flaming death…especially the ones with piratable resources and cities that crumble at the slightest seismic disturbance.

Because overt expressions of violence are forbidden on the boards, I will simply concur that he needs to be voted out of office. Preferably by a single individual before November.

I don’t know… This does seem a little familiar:

> [@](#):
>
> “We will continue to look and see if the Iranians were involved,” [President Bush] said.
>
> “I have long expressed my concerns about Iran. After all, it is a totalitarian society where free people are not allowed to exercise their rights as human beings.”

Looks an _awful_ lot like the “They’re preparing to attack us with WMD! September 11th! He’s a brutal dictator!” deal we’ve seen before, where the first two assertions are used to create emotional support for an attack, and when they turn out to be bullshit, the whole thing retroactively becomes an idealistic mission of liberation.

The pathetic thing is that Iran currently has one of the few relatively pro-American populations in the Arab world. Not for long, I suspect.

You liberals…

Don’t you see, it doesn’t matter which country was harboring terrorists, or which country is working on developing a nuclear weapon inspite of widespread international condemnation not too, or which nation actually has a flourishing pro-democracy movement (which, incidentally, we’re not doing much to actually help), the point is that we invaded a Middle East country, and that’s what matters!

The US could have a signed confession from the Iranian governing council and I doubt they’d be able to get any support from the rest of the world. Perhaps 2-3 years ago, but not now.

What should they do if it is established that Iran is tied directly to the 9/11 attacks (and not peripherally by “forgetting” to stamp passports) is to supply money to various European states to fund democratically inclined moderates with Iran.

This would be the sit down and look like you’ve shut up approach.

I think it would be justified. But, I think that it couldn’t be rushed into and I don’t think anything could be done without a broad coalition.

And you can bet your bippy that every member of that coalition would check and double check every single argument for war. The bar for legitimate action has been raised, but if the facts showed that Iran was behind it, even France and Germany would be charging in with us. The world community, even if they have a dislike for the US right now, could put their differences aside for such an egregious attack.

But I, for one, think that Iran’s government would be the perfect replacement for Iran’s government. It’s the theocracy that needs to be taken down.
