Look for Medicaid attorneys in your area. I’m going through this right now with my mother, have received some good advice and information in [this thread](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/care-for-mother/1005809) that I started. Have an initial consultation appointment on Wednesday. Mother needs the care now, the good news is that they can apply the spend-down amount to their mortgage, and it’s not subject to the 5-year look-back period.

ETA: Check [AVVO](https://www.avvo.com/) - they will find you attorneys in your area, complete with their ratings for said attorneys.
