That’s why I voted for Harris, despite how shitty the Democrats are when it comes to trans issues. Keeping Trump from gaining power again was the most important factor, but I know very well how little Democrats really care about defending our rights. They will quickly betray us the moment it becomes advantageous to them. And assholes like Maher will be cheering them on to do so. ---

I don’t have a problem with him interviewing Trump, however, assuming he doesn’t kiss ass. Someone other than Fox folks need to raise some issues with Trump. Maher might be too respectful given the circumstances, but I expect something good to come from it. ---

I never used to have people ask me how to spell my last name. Now I get it all the time. I am forced to conclude either that my last name has become harder to spell or that people are indeed dumber than they were in the past. ---

Maher’s Trump criticisms recently have been really on point, so at the least Maher knows all too well what Trump is and what he is doing to democracy. What I am expecting to see is, yes, a lot of backslapping about how crazy woke is, and even criticisms of anything MAGA is doing will be framed as slight overreactions to the existential threat that is woke. But also, Maher will get some good questions in. And he’s slick enough that he just might lead Trump into one or more damning admissions. Probably not, but likely enough for me to hope. (not that “damning admissions” would get through to the MAGA mob, but some people on the edge might notice). ---

If this does actually happen (and I remain skeptical that it will) it’s just a stupid publicity stunt. Since Maher’s income derives from having an audience, publicity is his currency. If he could actually have Trump on his show, I have no doubt that he’d do it. He had Obama on once as an interview guest, though just over video chat. Doesn’t mean he agrees with the Orange Felon on anything – he’s been ridiculing him for decades. ---

If so, that’s gonna be a very short conversation. Maher believes that some Democrats have gone too far on some aspects of being “woke”, whereas Trump is a full-fledged neo-Nazi fascist. Not exactly “compatriots”.
