Hate to rain on your pitting, but he’s not wrong about the thawing/refreezing of meat, provided the temperature of the meat doesn’t rise above refrigerator temperature. This is according to the County Health Department. I have no idea about anything else written here. ---

If I can just chime in, it’s his review of Gattaca that chaps my ass. It’s along the lines of Alien: both movies are pretty soft SF, but he reviews both movies as though they’re ultra-hard SF that explain every technological innovation in mind-numbing detail, and so anything they don’t explain must not have been invented yet. Gattaca doesn’t explain specifically how there’s a low-cost gene-sequencing device; therefore they don’t have one; therefore the gene-sequencing ID machine is absurd. It’s a totally insane way to review movies, but he links to those reviews all the time as though they’re timeless works of the art. ---

I read the Alien review and I agree with the cigarette thing and have now crossed Alien off my top 10 list. Look, they may have solved interstellar space flight as well as been able to create artificial intelligence almost indistinguishable from humans, but there is no way they figured out how to filter the air, nfw. ---

He comes across a bit high-handed in a lot of his posts, more so lately, but that one in the suspension of disbelief thread was ridiculous. Has he failed to notice the vast, vast number of “let’s nitpick movies for fun!” threads (hell, not just threads; entire websites) over the years? Accusing someone of “having no business watching fiction movies” is just… what the hell, dude? ---

And UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s is now removing its “freeze on the day of purchase” and replacing it with “freeze by ‘best before’ date”. ---
