I always thought _Heaven Knows_ from **Robert Plant** was a rather pretty song. I forget the name of the album… ---

Well, trust me to offer a couple of bluegrass entries. Try: **You Are My Flower** , as performed by Flatt and Scruggs (it’s an old Carter Family tune). **Wildwood Flower** as performed by Emmylou Harris. **There Is a Time** as performed by The Dillards. (That one makes me cry, Paw.) ---

Far too many for me to try listing them all, but the most recent really beautiful song that I heard was the song playing during the end credits of _Spirited Away_. I don’t know the song’s title (I’m assuming it’s something in Japanese), so I’ll probably have to wait until I see the movie again to find out. ---

I don’t hear it much on the radio around here anymore, but the INXS song “Beautiful Girl” really has that effect described in the OP, for me at least. ---

If you haven’t heard it, and most people apparently haven’t, find the song _Joan Jett of Arc_ by **Clem Snide**. Breathtakingly gorgeous, both musically and lyrically. You might also want to follow up with _The Dairy Queen_ and _Your Favorite Music_. ---

“Nightswimming” by R.E.M. Between the piano and the lyrics, this song is just…wow. And recently, “One Down” by Ben Folds. I heard it for the first time on his live CD, and it equally kicked my ass. ---

I find Tori Amos’ singing in general to be beautiful. However “Playboy Mommy” and “Purple People” are especially captivating songs of hers. ---
