Raced in to work one Monday morning weeks ago in order to be right on the mark when the on-line registration began - The first group to see the new baby lion cubs at the National Zoo! Squee! ! ! I won two spots for the viewing. Which was supposed to be last week, but the weather didn’t cooperate. I had to rearrange everything under the sun in order to do this today, and I still have no idea how I’ll manage to get the presents wrapped and the place cleaned up for Christmas now that I’ve lost the day. Celtling thought the lions were pretty cool all right, but the highlight of the day? Jumping in puddles. :rolleyes: Every puddle she saw, and despite Mommy’s protestations. Cold? Wet feet? Who cares? It was utter bliss, I tell you. So much so that I finally stopped complaining and even pointed a few out to her. 🆒 ---

I’m living in a town next to Seville; trains (local or middle-distance) are one of the best ways to get to The Big City. One of the last times I took it, it was a middle distance from Cádiz and I sat across from a dressed-to-the-nines lady who was definitely past retirement age. I helped her with her luggage and she confided in me that she was very excited because it was her first time on a train. Her eyes glowed, she giggled with excitement. If I ever get to be that age, I sure do hope I’ll be able to get that excited about new things - she was just lovely. ---

When my parents took me to the (Minneapolis ? Toronto?)zoo at age two I loved the monkey house. Loved it to distraction. But all I could tell anyone back home was that the “monkeys plyed with poo poo”. Told my great aunts and grandparents. Told the people at church. Toild waitresses apparently. Fast forward 34 years. I take my two year old son to see his first movie. Some day I will relate the events that both made us late for the 2pm show and established my son’s credentials as a ham. But late we were so we went to get something to eat at a nearby restaurant. Which became the highlight of his day. He had a pogo (corn dog) which I cut up with my fork. We went to my Mom’s after the movie and my son said excitedly(this was pre speech therapy) Mom cuck gogo. FUCK!" Mom laughed and laughed and decided that a) I had it coming after the monkey shit story and b) she got off lucky. ---

Back when my horse was at a boarding barn, I took my nieces over there. I thought they’d be excited to meet all the horses. I was wrong. The older niece was bored stiff.
