> I’m not sure you can call Maureen O’Sullivan the aggressor ( probably not, relative to her He-Man partner ), but I remember _Tarzan and His Mate_ as being comparatively sex-soaked ( for 1934 ) and it came off to me as a completely mutual objectification, if you will - they seemed _very_ in to each other.

Yes, also pre-Code, if you’ve seen the restored version. (It was recut after the Code came into effect and the steamier scenes were only put back relatively recently.)

I assume so - it was on TCM and had the skinny-dipping scene, which if they cut anything, I’d imagine would have been the first to go ;). I was actually surprised at how risque it was, even for pre-Code. Even aside from the body-doubled nudity, Maureen O’Sullivan’s skimpy outfit was barely covering anything and Weismuller’s wasn’t much more modest. Plus they just oozed sex ( and affection ).

But then again I’ve only seen a double-handful of pre-Code films ( mostly the famous ones ) so I’m probably not the best judge. Actually, I think the only one I currently own is _The Thin Man_ with its chronic boozing ( hey, O’Sullivan again - I love O’Sullivan! ).
