so, I’m late with my period. Six days to be exact. I took a test today and it was negative. I’m on the pill, so my period should come like clockwork. I never miss one. I’m going to Planned Parenthood tomorrow b/c they have walk-in pregnancy testing. I’m probably overreacting, but I’m scared ☹ Plus, my boyfriend’s out of town until Wednsday, so I had to warn him over the phone. Arrgggg…if this turns out to be nothing, we’re going to double up on the BC (ie, use condoms too, in addition to the pill). ---

Well it’s a good idea to be doubling up on the BC anyway. Nothing I can really say to assure you except don’t stress because that makes things worse (miss your period, you stress about it, causes you to miss it longer, and you stress more… just a vicious cycle) 6 days late? Well the tests work best if you are 2 weeks pregnant. So if you are pregnant and it’s only been that long it could be a false negative. I’d wait for another week, then take another test. If it’s still negative there is a pretty good chance that you aren’t pregnant as the doctor told me the ones you can buy at the drug store are as accurate as the ones you get from the doctor. They are essentially the same thing anyway, unless you are getting the blood test. Unless you are showing other symptoms (nausea, tender breasts etc I’m sure you’ve already looked them up) I wouldn’t worry for another week and even then unless you take the test and it comes back positive. Sometimes your body naturally skips, even when on the pill. I know that happened to me before which is also why I just thought I’d come down with a nasty virus and later found out I actually was pregnant (and sick on top of morning sickness). ---

I just recently had a scare. I was about three \*weeks \* late! I’m not on BC so I’m used to a little irregularity, but the last time is came (before Wendesday) was _Easter_ weekend. So yeah, I was a little freaked, and took about 5 tests, all negative, and then BAM, Wednesday morning. Never thought I’d be so glad to have ruined undies. 😃 I’m attributing it to the stress from college graduation and job-searching. So, yeah, if I could be three weeks late and not pregnant, there’s definitely a chance you’re safe. ---

It’s a couple of years now since I skipped a period while on the Pill. I’m like clockwork too; never late (when not on BC) and had never skipped in my life. I spent a couple of weeks convinced I was pregnant–I went through several test kits–and another couple of weeks wondering what the heck had happened. _shrug_ Who knows the mysteries that lurk in the body of Woman? Here’s hoping it’s just a scare. But I do have several friends with Pill babies; it happens. ---

It’s just really stressful (as I’m sure you know), plus my bf still has four more years of school (getting his PhD starting in August). Plus I feel bad now b/c I’m sure I ruined his night by telling him all this earlier, even though he said he was glad I did…arg. On top of that stress there’s the fact that he’s thousands of miles away right now, so we have to deal with this over the phone… I’m going to try and sleep now. I hope. Any “I was ridiculously late and then I got my period” stories would be much appreciated. 😃 ---

One of my friends hasn’t had her period in a couple of years. She’s on birth control but she doesn’t purposely try to skip her periods. Her doctor said that’s normal, especially if it’s a really strong pill. It freaked her out at first, but now she really likes it. ---

I don’t have my period. I love it. That said, I once got a call from the doctor’s office saying “the batch of depo we shot you with was bad, come in for a free pregnancy test”. I was going through a bad patch and I had a panic attack. No, I wasn’t pregnant. I’m not on depo anymore, for what it’s worth. You’ll be fine, tqog. ---

thanks ladies! this kind of thing is always scary. At least the bf is being supportive, as much as he can be over the phone / email. I’m off to Planned Parenthood this morning, assuming they’re open. I want to get tested there, supposedly their tests work even before you miss your period. ---

one last thing, before this thread most likely dies and frees the hamsters for other things… I got to tell my boyfriend I wasn’t pregnant on his BIRTHDAY…he said, “that’s exactly what I wanted, sweetie!”
