Same here, and I had no problem with my phone at all.
Years ago though, when I went in for a sleep study, I was told my cell phone wouldn’t work. That was because we were going to be in the basement of the hospital. For all I know that’s not the case anymore.

Having worked in a hospital, the signage is more a courtesy thing. There wasn’t anything in our facility that required them to be off, not even telemetry. That said, the imaging department regularly had awful cell coverage. I’m not sure if it was the radiation or the sheilding in the area.
My current gig is a clinic. Our public wifi sucks donkey balls.
After my last time in a hospital I filled out a satisfaction survey and mentioned how helpful it would have been for there to be chargers available to borrow. They contacted me to thank me for the suggestion, which they implemented.
