Like the title says.
I’m running Xp with IE7 (Not interested in changing so don’t bother mentioning firfox et al)
I have tried Free download manager

> **[Free Download Manager - download everything from the internet](https://www.freedownloadmanager.org/index.htm)**
>
> Use Free Download Manager to download movies, torrents and other files at top speed!

Which I loved - while it worked. The damn thing just stopped letting me download one day. Tried reinstalling but that made no difference.
So then I tried Download Accelerator Plus

> **[Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) - Free Download Manager & Video Downloader](http://www.speedbit.com/)**
>
> DAP is a download manager that allows you to download files up to 400% faster - multiple simultaneous downloads, resume broken downloads and much more.

Gahh! Downloaded a metric ton of crap onto my computer.
So now I’m seeking to benefit from the combined knowledge and wisdom of the teeming millions in finding a decent download manger.

Cheers

[Choose](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_download_managers).

GetRight used to be good, I used that back when I was on IE.

What do you expect a download manager to do? (I don’t use one myself, but then I use Firefox, which you’re not interested in.)

I’m on dialup. If my internet connection drops out I can restart the download without starting from scratch. Because download can take forever on dialup I like being able to pause or slow down the download so I could use the internet. With free download manager I could set the speed of the download and the highest speed was twice as fast as I had previously been able to manage.

The best free download manager —\> [http://www.flashget.com/index\_en.htm](http://www.flashget.com/index_en.htm)

It works even better with a browser addon tool [Flashgot](http://flashgot.net/), but you have to use a superior web browser for that, and you don’t.

There’s a great review of the best free download managers at the [Techsupport Alert Web site](http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-download-manager.htm).

Hope this helps.
