Sprinkle a little in your hand, rub the wet brush in it, and proceed.

As for flavoring, this is one area where essential oils really are useful. You can buy them at a store that sells candy-making supplies, or at your local pharmacy.

The salt would be slightly abrasive, but also dissolve in saliva; the baking soda also is abrasive but doesn’t dissolve as readily.

Make sure you get bentonite and not attapulgite.

The latter was the old active ingredient in Kaopectate.
