I’m not finding anything about it. It’s off an old spotting scope or monocular,
“Hialeah” in script, 20X60, Field 1.3[sup]o[/sup], No. 1262, and then a small “Japan” stamped in the bottom.
Here is the lens cap, with the trademark.
Any help or ideas will be appreciated.
Well, if I saw that symbol on a food product I would assume it means it’s kosher. The problem here is a) it’s a lens cap; and 2) I can’t find that symbol among approved “certifying” kosher organizations.
There is a company in Jerusalem named Kata that manufactures photographic equipment accessories. You might try looking there (I can’t find a working website in the few minutes I have here.).
Yeah, it’s like a stretched Star of David. 2 overlayed isosceles triangles instead of 2 equilateral triangles. That and being Japanese has me buggered, plus no other marks. “Hialeah” doesn’t get anywhere but Florida.
The scope looks like it’s probably from the '50s or so. The style of the script, the gray-green crinkle finish paint, all that.
It doesn’t appear to be anything spectacular, but I was quite impressed by the view I got of comet Holmes with it. I was just puzzled that I couldn’t get a single Google hit regarding it.
Are you sure it isn’t a Hialeah Florida scope? I googles hialeah +scope +gun, and there are a couple of people selling gun scopes made by a company called Haileah Florida.
“Universal Hialeah Florida gun scope” seems to be a model name to look under.
Looks like Universal Firearms Corporation was based in Hialeah, FL. Not sure if that’s who made this, they appear to have also been importers though. At least it’s something to follow up on, and I appreciate that.
