I dunno, but the most recent one on his list is from 1968…

Yup. I’ve seen it multiple times! 🙂

YES! I would very much like to see this.

Haven’t heard of any of these movies. I will check them out. I’ve seen that Twilight Zone though!

Never heard of these films either. I have a lot to look up on Netflix.

Oh yeah! I’ve seen ‘Malkovich’ numerous times, before ‘Adaptaton’. Never heard of Tapeheads.

> [Being John Malkovich](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120601/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_1) - the premise is bizarre. This movie raises some interesting questions about identity and art.
>
> [Brazil](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088846/?ref_=nv_sr_1) - an over-the-top satire about a society that’s dominated by an incompetent bureaucracy.
>
> [This Is Spinal Tap](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088258/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_1) - Based on your appreciation of **Best in Show**. This is Christopher Guest’s first mockumentary.
>
> [No Country for Old Men](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0477348/?ref_=nm_flmg_prd_9) - a Coen Brothers movie (like Fargo). Very dark. A masterpiece, in my opinion.
>
> [The Big Lebowski](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118715/?ref_=nm_flmg_prd_17) - another Coen Brothers movie. This one is close to a straight comedy.
>
> [District 9](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_1) - first-rate science fiction with a serious theme

Never heard of ‘Brazil’, I’ve seen the rest. I liked them all except for ‘No Country for Old Men’. Though I remember being VERY tired at the time I saw it.

Of the rest I’ve seen:

Joe vs The Volcano
The invention of lying
Lars And ther Real Girl
Napoleon Dynamite
Almost Famous
Boys Don’t Cry
Freaks
Casablanca

I think that’s is so far. I think I skipped jsgoddess’ suggestion; Haven’t seen ‘Locke’.

Sci-Fi: Good, if the movie doesn’t break it’s own ‘rules’. How much emphasis Is put on the ‘Sci’ is important if the movie’s not using it as just a backdrop to tell their ‘Fi’. It’s difficult to explain, and different people have different ‘rules’ in suspending disbelief.

Ooh, if you’ve not seen **Brazil** , definitely check it out. It’s a very twisty movie–messy in the best possible way, and it’s one of the bleakest visions of the future I’ve ever seen, but very funny.

> Dark City is great, but I always give the same advice: plug your ears and sing “La la la!” until you see a naked lightbulb swinging on a wire. For some god knows why reason, the movie begins with some dude facing the camera and explaining the movie’s plot in small words. Without that introduction, it’s a wonderful mindtrip of a movie. With it, it’s just infuriating.

The 2008 Director’s Cut thankfully dispenses with the opening narration.

Don’t pass on ‘Blue Angel’. It’s old, but falls into your quirky mold.

Since you listed **Fargo** , I will add one of the greatest movies of all time, not coincidentally by the same writers\producer\director.

**[Millers Crossing](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100150/)**

Wonderful 1930’s atmosphere, great acting (especially from John Turturro and Jon Polito), violent and instantly quotable.

> [@](#):
>
> Tom Reagan is the laconic anti-hero of this amoral tale which is also, paradoxically, a look at morals within the criminal underworld of the 1930s. Two rival gangs vie for control of a city where the police are pawns, and the periodic busts of illicit drinking establishments are no more than a way for one gang to get back at the other. Black humour and shocking violence compete for screen time as we question whether or not Tom, right-hand man of the Irish mob leader, really has a heart.

**Pleasantville**

Every time I stumble across this movie, I’m reminded how much I like it. It has some scenes that are stunning to look at, but then I also notice how rare it is for a movie to make a case in favor of knowledge and (for lack of a better word) corruption.

_ **Stranger Than Fiction** _ - starring Will Ferrell, but like Sandler in _Punch-Drunk Love_, not a typical movie for him. It’s light-hearted, but not an outright comedy; it has a lot of the “subverting conventions of film and storytelling” vibe of the first four films listed in the OP.

Need to check Netflix for ‘Blue Angel’ because it seems like Chefguy really wants me to see it. Brazil wasn’t on Netflix, nor was ‘Moon’ and I ended up getting it through Fios.

It was kickass. 🙂

I saw the trailer for Brazil, it looks mad.

Other’s I’ve seen

Memento
Be Kind Rewind
Idiocracy
A Mighty Wind
This Is Spinaltap
Need to see Death to Smoochy’!

I only saw it once, but I HATED ‘Pleasantville’.

I don’t remember why else I hated it so much, but I believe one of the kids stays in Pleasantville… and she has a mother on the “real world” that’s going to start and wonder where her daughter is.

I’ve seen ‘Stranger Than fiction’. It was ok.

Saw ‘Lock, Stock’

I should add

\*\*Django Unchained \*\*and \*\*Pulp Fiction \*\*to the list.

I’ll look up more.
