I’m looking for a new game to get interested in… Recently, I’ve enjoyed The Sims, the SimCitys, SimTower, Black and White, Caesar 3, and Civilization 3. Any suggestions? ---

Try 1503 AD and some of the recommendations in [this recent thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=173304). Also be aware that the SimCity 4 patch was released yesterday and addresses a lot of the performance issues that people were having. ---

I’ll add _Warcraft 3_. The original is a good buy now and there is an expansion pack (Frozen Throne) coming out soon. ---

You may want to give Master of Orion 3 a shot. I enjoyed it. ---

You might want to try the sequels to Caesar 3: Pharaoh and Zeus(though I haven’t played them myself) which should be very cheap. If you liked Civ 3, you might want to try Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri which is similar but on an alien planet. ---

Galactic Civilizations is getting rave reviews, and is much easier to play than Master of Orion 3. Pharaoh is a very good recommendation. Zeus not so much. My suggestion - my very, very strong suggestion - is Europa Universalis II. An absolutely terrific, immersive, addictive strategy game, one of the best ever made. ---

I’d recommend Sim City 4, but I don’t think the boys at Fort Meade will let you use one of their supercomputers to try and play it. ---

I’ll also chime in and recommend Europa Universalis II. Just make sure you get the right updates. 1.06 is a killer when it comes to paying for standing armies. 1.05 is probably best for new comers. Or whatever, what do I know. 🙂 GalCiv is also starting to seriously take up my time.
