# Recommend a good calendar/pop-up reminder besides Outlook?

I’m getting pretty tired of the latest version of Outlook that I have. (2007. Yes, we are that far behind here.) I missed a meeting yesterday because Outlook’s pop-ups sometimes appear low in Window’s Z-order.

Is there some freeware out there where I can put my appointments and that will pop up reminders that I can’t help but see?

I use two different ones. [Rainlendar](http://www.rainlendar.net/cms/index.php) is a desktop calendar with an alarm and pop-up reminders which can be set to the topmost focus. I use it for important reminders, like “leave now to catch the train to work” or “it’s garbage pickup day tomorrow, put the bins out now” or “meeting with Rob at 11am.”

I also use a less obtrusive one called [Reminder Buddy](http://www.breittechnologies.com/products/applications/btreminderbuddy/download.html). It’s faster to set up and is good for one-off reminders. I use it for telling me a TV show is about to start.
