My search may have ended. I tried [these](http://www.capitolcups.com/cgi-bin/ccp51/cp-app.cgi?usr=51J6003114&rnd=7272245&rrc=N&affl=&cip=&act=&aff=&pg=cat&ref=facedesign2&catstr=) but found them to be poorly insulated, and not appropriate for travel.

I tried the [Contigo West](http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-Tumbler-%252d-Silver%252f-Black/dp/B000FE9OP8/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1198261885&sr=1-3) but found the insulation to be horrible.

I tried the [Contigo Extreme Bottle](http://www.buy.com/prod/contigo-extreme-bottle-silver-black/q/loc/63024/203895125.html) but it does not fit in my car’s cup holder (why design it like that?).

Since I love most everything abut my [Thermos Nissan](http://www.amazon.com/Nissan-18-Ounce-Stainless-Steel-Insulated-Tumbler/dp/B0000639WN/ref=pd_sim_sg_title_8) but need something leak proof, I decided to stick with the brand and found the [Nissan Leakproof Backback Bottle](http://www.amazon.com/Nissan-JMW500SBK-Leak-Proof-Backpack-Bottle/dp/B000LBSBP4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1198262169&sr=1-4) which received a “leak proof” review from [this reviewer](http://coffeegeek.com/proreviews/detailed/thermosnissan/bottles). It can be operated with one hand, has excellent insulation, fits in car cup holders, and does not leak when closed.

Thought I would post if anyone was searching for a good travel mug in the future.

I have [this mug by Oxo](http://www.oxo.com/OA_HTML/xxoxo_ibeCCtpOXOPrdDtl.jsp?section=10091&item=57245&minisite=10024&respid=53057) that’s the most leakproof travel mug I’ve ever had - you can hold it upside down for a long time and it won’t leak. The click button to open it is on the top of the lid.

It is handwash only, but since I don’t have a dishwasher that’s not a dealbreaker for me.

I tried that mug. Be very, very, very careful. The lid traps an ungodly amount of stuff that you damn near have to break the thing to get clean. The large lid holds a LOT of crap inside it. I thought I was doing a good job of getting it clean and wasn’t. I immediately threw it away.

I looked at the Oxo mug, but it is hard to manage one-handed. The Nissan Leakproof Backback Bottle is much easier to operate, and my quest for the perfect travel mug stopped there.
