Recommend a good FPS game that I can download for my PC

Wait, is that like… a browser based Open Arena?

I’m never gonna get anything done… (Unreal/Quake-likes are the only FPS games I really like to play multi)

Yeah, it’s a real distraction. I’m a teacher and I am having a hard time limiting my playing to my lunch hour and after school. But it’s a great distraction. I highly recommend it.

No One Lives Forever 2 should run on your machine. It runs on my netbook.

Ooohh, if No One Lives Forever 2 runs on that, then I would highly highly highly encourage it! In fact, get them both.

I’ll second NOLF2 if you can find a Legal Download for it.

I’ve been trying but have been unable to find it From the Usual online stores like Steam, GOG, etc as My old Disk (Which I’ve had since 2003) is really starting to get scratched, and I find it pain as I’ve gotten used to the convenience of Download able Games.

There are some truly excellent old FPS games. Two of my favourites are Clive Barker’s Undying and Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

These are IMO the very best story-based FPS games from the early 2000s (around 2002 I think). I pull them out and play through them every one or two years, and I am regularly surprised at how well they are aging.

Also in the story-based FPS line, the original Deus Ex (2000) is apparently available on Steam.

If you do go for Deus Ex (which I highly recommend) be sure to check out this page: Deus Ex on modern systems.

I strongly recommend you check out Can You Run It. It’s been accurate for me (so far). The only problem with it is that it only checks new-ish games, most of which you won’t be able to run - but it does have Half Life 2/Orange Box.

I’ll second Deus Ex, which is a brilliant game for which I’m still awaiting a sequel :p, and I’ll add you could try the first Call of Duty game which is A) available on Steam and B) might run on your system (it requires 32MB of Graphics Ram).

The first Medal of Honour game for PC (Medal of Honour: Allied Assault) should run; it only needs 16MB of Graphics RAM. I believe it’s available in a Deluxe Edition with a few of the other MoH games, too, if that helps…

Thanks everyone. I went and got Deus Ex from Steam and so far it works perfectly fine. I haven’t seen or heard any glitches. I downloaded the program that Bogeyman linked to, but I haven’t installed it yet. I may not need to.

There are a shit-ton of older FPSs you might be able to run on GameTap, including Deus Ex, Call of Duty 2, Far Cry and Deus Ex: Invisible War (the not-as-good sequel).
