Wild Turkey has some wonderful expressions, but if you are mixing it, just stick to the basic 101.

Thank you both…
The reason I asked was because a few days ago I was at the State Liquor Store and happened to notice that Early Times was on sale for under 9 bucks a bottle, where Jim Beam was almost $15.
I know that Jim Beam is considered by most to be just a so-so bourbon, and I figured that if Early Times was being sold for about half the price of JB, it probably wasn’t a great sign…
Early Times is what college bars serve to freshman that order whiskey and coke. That or Ten High.
Around here in Salt Lake, whenever I see a 2-dollar shot of whiskey deal, it seems like Jim Beam is almost always the brand that they pour.
and that’s why I love bars. Another vote for Woodfords.
Way to sell booze. Hope I can find some here.
Something available in most establishments - Gentleman Jack
If you’re lucky - Redbreast Irish Whiskey
Drink either of them neat, or with just a couple of cubes
If you can, you won’t be sorry.
I visited some inlaws in Kentucky a couple years ago, and the menfolk all went out to the Woodford Reserve distillery for a tour. It was fascinating throughout, but my favorite part was going into the aging barn: thousands upon thousands of barrels of bourbon racked to the rafters. And the smell, my god, the smell! it could knock you over. This rich, buttery, sweet, alcoholic aroma was thick enough that it was hard to move through the room.
When I pour myself some Woodford Reserve, I drink it over the course of an hour or so. I sip it only occasionally, but I sniff it constantly.
A great American single malt whiskey is Wasmund’s, if you see that on a menu you know you are in a good bar.
Your profile shows you live in New York City. If that’s the case, I’d trot over to The Whiskey Ward. When there, I would try the Michter’s ten year old single barrell bourbon. They purport to have ALL of the Van Winkle whiskies available. Any of those would be a treat. They also have Blanton’s, 15 year old Jefferson Reserve, as well as Woodford, Russell, and other excellent suggestions in this thread.
Then you can try some ryes. I especially recommend the Michter’s single barrel straight rye.
The whiskey list at that bar could keep me busy for a month!
You may not be able to find it in a bar, but Bulleit Brothers Bourbon is the bottle I keep going back to when I have to restock my “sippin’ bourbon.”
