My sister’s taking me to Chicago for my birthday weekend in late May. (I wanted to go to Chicago because I’ve never been there.) She got some good airfare and hotel dealio, and we’re staying at the Millennium Knickerbocker. Any opinions on that hotel?
If that’s the same as the Knickerbocker, it’s another old musty classic on Michigan Avenue, like the Drake. You should have a good time.
Is the Knickerbocker the one with (or used to have?) the Tip Top Tap?
When you coming into town, Jodi?
No, the Tip Top Tap was at the top of the Allerton Hotel, nearby. Alas, the TTT has gone to that great big dumpster in the sky, but its sign is still there; a beacon no doubt drawing in thousands of suckers every year…TRM
Over Memorial Day weekend. Suggestions for what to see and do (and where to eat!) would be greatly appreciated. She hasn’t been there since college (quite a while ago now) and I’ve never been.
Jodi, check the Straight Dope Chicago message boards (at the bottom of the main board here; at least it is for me). Lots of good discussion there already…TRM
Well, let’s see.
Sat a.m. we can fit the 2 of you in as the 3d and 4th in our 4-some teeing off at 7:45 in W. Chicago.
Sat nite is a card game at casa Dinsdale.
Then Sunday night we’re gonna rage on over to Fitsgeralds to see Southern Culture on the Skids!.
Care to join us?
Somewhat more seriously - the biggest newest thing is the opening of the new wing of the Art Institute this month.
Not sure what is at the Field right now - there’s some Harry Potter exhibit at the MSI, but that isn’t your thing, is it?
I think the Shedd Aquarium is going to reopen their cetecean exhibit - but that always kinda makes me sad.
If the weather is nice you should really check out a concert at Millenium Park. And in decent weather a boat trip on the river can be a nice way to pass an hour or so.
