My old Samsung Galaxy Mini having recently given up the ghost, I now have a Samsung 7 (Android) and my old pedometer app MOVES (which I really liked a lot in all its simplicity) doesn’t appear to like this upgrade. So what was once a helpful tool has now become glitchy and unreliable (and based on their Twitter feed, the app team went underground a year ago, so I’m not expecting any support for assistance).

So what kind of app do you use to log simple footfalls? I don’t need a more elaborate workout app (I have MapMyWalk for that purpose); I don’t need to time intervals or calorie burns or do more elaborate calculations. I just need something that’s always running in the background, always counting, always happy to deliver a number at the end of the night–a number it will retain if I need to refer back to it sometime in the future. Also, no accessories (Fitbit watch, etc.) required.

Any thoughts or faves? Thanks! 🙂

I really liked Google’s MyTrails…but they stopped supporting it. Sigh…

So, yeah! Please, hikers, what’s good?

By “Samsung 7”, do you mean “Samsung Galaxy S7”? Because mine includes Samsung S Health, which basically does what you want.

Yeah, S Health, found under the Samsung grouping of apps, does what you want. Just switch it on.

Excellent! I found it and it appears to be exactly what I hoped. I’ll see how it handles a full day or so but it looks like a great option. Thanks everyone!
