# Recommend a song to me

I’m a big fan of music, and am looking to add some to my collection. I have a particular taste for songs that mix pop/rock with classical. I’m a big fan of **Metallica’s** _S&M_, **Vanessa Carlton’s** _1000 miles_ and _Ordinary Day_, and **Elton John’s** _Tiny Dancer_, if that gives you any ideas. Any good tunes (piano work a real plus) that fit this particular interest of mine? The harder the rock, the better, but any pop - rock type music will do.

Don’t know if it’s up your alley, but Ben Kweller does sort of a mix of pop/punk/rock and uses a lot of piano, especially in the slower songs. Sha Sha is one of my favorite newer albums.
Rufus Wainright does more modern music with great lyrics, though I wouldn’t call it rock. His parents are classical musicians, and he’s classically trained. Makes for great mellow music.
There was a similar thread here a week or two ago in which I and a lot of other people recommended Nightwish. You might check them out. I’ll see if I can find the thread

Speaking of Sir Reginald, **Dream Theater** did a great cover of _Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding_. It’s a little harder than the original. You may want to check out some of their other material, as it tends to be theatrical and musically ambitious (though it inevitably strays into pretentiousness from time to time). _Images and Words_ is a great album. _A Change of Seasons_ may be more accessible since it consists of covers, plus the epic 23-minute title track which shows off a lot of their skills. I’d avoid _Once in a Livetime_.

Try Evanescence. Their new album, Fallen, is pretty darn good. Hasn’t left my player for about a week. The vocals are f’ing incredible.
Tori Amos is an incredible artist, and would fit into an “alternative” category. Same with Aimee Mann. You might like em…Ever heard of Apocalyptica? They orchestrate Metallica songs–some are pretty cool.

This might not what you are looking for, but I recommend that you listen to _Blackmore’s Night_. They are sort ot medieval/pop but you will like them! Better if you like _Deep Purple_ and Rainbow[/].
Speaking of Rainbow, the first 3 albums with Dio have some classical moments. Ritchie has also done an incredible Beethoven’s 5th rendition in Difficult to Cure IIRC

My thanks all for your responses so far. **Mr. Blue Sky** , all I can say is :smack: , how could I forget _Year of the Cat_!?!. One of my favorites of all time. A little down, but great. I like **Kate Bush’s** _Running up that Hill_, so I’ll definitely check out _This Woman’s Work_
I’ll definitely sample all suggestions. **fizgig’s** link to the other thread, is proof that all questions have already been asked. The OP in that post is _exactly_ what I’m looking for. Looks like I need to check out **Godspeed You!Black Emperor** and **Nightwish**
