# Recommend a water filter

There’s probably nothing wrong with my water, but I get the occasional paranoia that little bits of something or other are in there building up slowly over time. It’d give me some peace of mind to filter it - plus it tends to taste better anyway.
I had a simple Brita sink filter for a while and it seemed to do the job well. Looking over Amazon, it doesn’t look like they have anything close to the model I used to use, so I’m starting from scratch.
I’m leaning towards a sink filter because they seem more convenient, but I have to wonder - typically the pitcher filters take 10+ minutes to process the water, right? Well if the sink filter is processing water as it passes through it, it has to filter it at a much faster rate. Does that mean the filtering is inferior? Or does have it have to do with water pressure forcing the water through?
If I do get a sink filter, it has to have a pass-through so that you can wish dishes and such. I’d imagine that’s standard.
As far as my requirements - I’d like something good but nothing too exotic. I’d prefer to keep the cost in the under $50 for the unit, under $30 for the replacement filter range. So long as it has good performance against typical contaminants… I’m particularly paranoid about little bits of lead and other metallic contaminants although I have no reason to suspect there is any in my water.
So, what are your experiences?

We used one of [these](http://www.geappliances.com/smartwater/dw_faucet_mount.htm) for a while before switching to a whole house filter. It’s through-put or whatever you call it was fine. It really cleaned up the water.
