I would like a Chess program for my PC.  
Recommend a (inexpensive) program.

I was always particularly fond of Chess Master 3000, which I believe is now abandonware (you can download it free/legal).

I wish I could get our Chess Maniac 5 Billion and One to work. It’s from the guys at _National Lampoon_ and the only game I know of that one has to pay attention to so the AI doesn’t cheat.

What do you want to be able to do with the program? Do you want to just play against the computer? Do you want to play against other people over the internet? Do you want to study, like with drills and lessons?

Just play the computer.
