I’m a former film guy who made short movies, but since film is so damn expensive, I’ve been thinking about experimenting with video. I know next to nothing about it. Are digital cameras automatically broadcast quality? Your input is greatly appreciated. ---

First and foremost, I cannot recommend you a camera. I can recommend you _for_ something, e.g. a job, a role in a movie, etc., but I cannot recommend you a camera. Now, I _can_ recommend a camera. _AND_ I can recommend a camera _to_ you or even _for_ you. No, DV Cameras are not broadcast quality, some of them suck, so to speak. To edit the videos you need one huge HD & a fast computer… I myself use a Sony HI8 . I made a dvd with it the other day & it looks awesome on a 27" tv. Its not even a digital camera…
