Results - Cocktail #1: Manhattan
3 jiggers Bulliett rye
1/2 jigger Dolin sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 Luxardo cherries, plus one stirring spoon of cherry juice
Stirred, not shaken.
Amazing. My usual recipe, but with the Dolin vermouth. Quite a lot “brighter” and oh so tasty.
Much grass, those of you who suggested Dolin.
I used to be one of those “just whisper Vermouth” guys, until I tried Dolin. I now use a 3:1 Gin to Vermouth ratio. That’s some tasty stuff.
If you want to live on the wild side, try using half sweet and half dry in your martini. It’s a little hard to measure, but it’s worth it.
Bombay Sapphire is my go-to gin for martinis or for just sipping. But sometimes I’ll pick up a bottle of Bombay Sapphire East , which contains notes of lemon grass and black peppercorn. Gives it that extra little dash of flavor.
Also, refrigerate your vermouth once you open it. It goes bad.
Bloom Gin(nice balance of flavors) + Carpano Classico(because it’s Carpano Classico, 'nuff said) = Perfect gin martini
Cocktail #2 - Gin & Tonic
Tanqueray Rangpur gin
Refreshe* tonic water
Ice.
No lime needed at all. Quite a nice refresher while watching a ball game on TV.
Refreshe is the Albertsons house brand. Pretty good, actually, and a third the price of stuff like Fever Tree.
Damn, now I’m thirsty.
(makes note to get some Aviation and Dolin for future experiments)
3:1 gin to vermouth and three jumbo jalapeno or blue cheese stuffed olives.
In order of preference:
Gin- Botanist, Hendricks, Tanqueray 10
Vermouth- Noilly Pratt Extra Dry, Martini Dry, Cinzano Extra Dry
A dash of DSB bitters swirled in the glass. YMMV.
More votes for both Hendricks and Beefeaters. They make different martinis, but both are great.
