French knitting. You can buy really great little looms for this somewhere or other.
fortysomething responses and nobody has said gardening? That takes a ton of time and doesn’t leave you with a mountain of stuff that you have to inflict on your friends and family.
I’m going to get shot down for this, but have you tried painting wargaming models?
God’s Eyes. I used to make these when I was a kid - it’s soothing! And they’re purty. Here’s a link for ya.
Ok, maybe that was a stupid idea. What the hell are ya gonna do with a bunch of God’s Eyes?
I forgot I used to to this a long time ago but why don’t you learn how to draw with MS Paint? I wasted mucho classroom time trying to copy posters or people I saw sitting around the room when I was supposed to be learning C++.
Thinking about it makes me want to start back up.
I’ll give a third vote for origami. You can use the paper straight out of your recycle bin to do it, too. I make paper Christmas tree ornaments. One year I found a pattern to make an Origami Christmas cactus, but got distracted after making all the flowers and never got around to the leaves.
Do people still latch hook anymore? I thought about doing it again a couple of years ago and didn’t see any ads around Christmas for latch hook kits and supplies. Figured it was dead.
Somewhat paradoxical, but Outdoor rock climbing.
At some point during a climb the world drifts away and becomes only about that next 10 feet above you. Yes, you can be afraid of the climb, but that is what drives the focus.
I’ll third latch hooking, its truly mindless and almost impossible to mess up. Rugs and pillows are a little less kitschy than the wall-art.
It’s not exactly in fashion, but the kits have been in the craft store for as long as i can remember.
